It’s Chriiiiiiiiiiiiissstmas!
Dare we say it, Christmas is coming! In keeping with the festive theme, we’ve put together a list of our favourite Christmassy houses and buildings, where the client brief always includes a little magic!
Santa Claus Village, Lapland
The ultimate Christmas destination! Santa Claus Village in Lapland has a multitude of differently shaped buildings and architecture, all built with a theme of magic and wonder. With new accommodation opening December 2017 as the Igloo Hotel or Glass Resort, the developers behind this fascinating project really know how to create a magical wonderland with Scandinavian design. From glass walls to ice block structures, each element has been considered to wow the visitors and experience the full views of the surrounding landscape.
Glass Igloos, Kakslauttanen
We want one!! The perfect blend of futuristic design mixed with traditional ancestry ideals, the Glass Igloos of Kakslauttanen are amazing. Igloos were originally built from compacted snow as shelter by the indigenous peoples of the Arctic regions of Greenland, Canada and Alaska, but these are a little more sophisticated – with specially insulated and electronically-controlled triple glazing working to melt surrounding and falling snow with gentle heat to ensure clear views to the outside. Igloo guests can experience the wonder of the Northern Lights from the comfort of a sofa, eggnog in hand.
In UK, we’re familiar with using glass roofs and light wells to bring extra light into reception rooms and darker internal areas of our homes; so it’s interesting to see glass being used in it a more pure form – to simply see what’s outside.
